Ok lets talk about defibrillator, Defibrillator is a unit to sent amount of current to move a stop heart base on the heart rhythm. Normally defib will have ECG and SpO2 too., but in this entry we will discuss only defib



Basically Defibrillator use energy to deliver a shock, and the energy based on :-

1. How much current deliver
2. How much voltage is used
3. How long the time to deliver the energy

-Successful defibrillation requires that enough current be delivered to the heart muscle during the shock. Too much peak current during the shock can injure the heart. Impedance is the body's resistance to the flow of current. Some people naturally have higher impedance than others. A medical technician places the electrodes, either pads or paddles, on the patient's chest. The defibrillator equipment should never be placed directly on the breasts of female patients. Because the area between the skin and the electrodes provides a slight barrier to electrical current, the health worker usually apples gel to the skin to help better direct the electrical pulse into the heart. After the technician clears the areas, the defibrillator sends a direct shock into the chest cavity towards the heart. Depending on the machinery, the defibrillator machine may automatically choose the correct level of shock or the technician will have to determine the level of shock based on the readings of the heart monitor

Certain factors can also increase impedance, such as:

  • A large and/or hairy chest
  • Very dry skin
  • Excess air in the lungs
  • Improper application of the defibrillation electrodes
Many factors affect the chance of defibrillation success: time elapsed before the first shock is given, placement of the electrode pads, the person's impedance level and certain health conditions. Therefore, it may take more current, a longer shock duration, and/or increased voltage to ensure success.

- Nitrous oxide ( piping to wall or cylinder)
- Patient circuit (one time used only)
- O2, N20 Indicator
- Alarm system
- Backup batteries
- sensor (gas sensor, flow sensor, battery sensor, pressure sensor all of these sensor is to maintaining the desired (PEEP))
- Controller (microprocessor)
